Getting a new website indexed by Google used to take weeks. With the right steps, most sites get indexed within 24 hours. Here's the exact checklist we recommend for every ShiftStackApp deployment.
Go to search.google.com/search-console. Add your property (your domain). Verify ownership — ShiftStackApp adds the verification meta tag automatically. Then submit your sitemap URL: yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml
In Search Console, use the URL Inspection tool. Enter your homepage URL and click "Request Indexing." Google will crawl it within hours, not weeks.
A sitemap tells Google exactly which pages you have. ShiftStackApp generates a valid sitemap.xml automatically. Visit yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml — you should see clean XML, not HTML.
Visit yourdomain.com/robots.txt. Make sure it doesn't have "Disallow: /" which would block Google entirely. For most sites, a simple robots.txt that allows all crawlers is correct.
Google indexes pages faster when they're linked from sites Google already knows about. Post your new site on LinkedIn, Twitter/X, or a relevant Reddit community. Even one link from an indexed page can trigger Google to crawl yours within hours.
After following these steps, most new sites appear in Google within 24-48 hours for their exact domain name. Ranking for competitive keywords takes longer — but at least you'll be indexed and visible.
If you're a local business, create or claim your Google Business Profile (business.google.com). This gets you in Google Maps and local search results — often faster than organic rankings.
